Back in 2006, after years of digging a hole in the sand, the United States finally buried its head in the sand to become oblivious to i-gaming with the enactment of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act ("UIGEA").  UIGEA certainly has controversial roots -- it was enacted as a rider to the Safe Ports Act of 2006 -- and the final regulations implementing UIGEA stuck to its controversial roots.

It is certainly no secret that the supposedly recession-proof gaming industry has not escaped the ravages of the current economic downturn. Even in those fortunate venues which have not experienced a drop in patron visits, win per customer is often down. Dismal numbers have the same impact in gaming as anywhere else.

A severe drop in revenue isn’t the only problem created by a poor economy.  Remember, hard times also affect the people who work for us.  Bad economic periods may cause a number of our dealers and other sensitive position employees to seek “alternative” financial assistance through fraudulent means.

I just returned from speaking at HITEC in Anaheim, California for the 2009 HITEC conference. During my time at the conference I realized that most hotels and hospitality operators are still dropping the ball in regards to interactive marketing. Many hotels and resorts have forgotten their customers are online and can type. This may sound slightly funny, maybe even sarcastic but it's the truth.

If you didn't catch the short video acceptance speech from this year's G2E Asia Visionary Award recipient, Dr. Stanley Ho, I'm not sure you missed much. And if you didn't make it half way around the world to the Cotai Strip for the yearly event, I hear you didn't miss much either. Word on the street? Attendance was down, operators were no where to be found, and financial problems still plague the continent.
