Ryzex Increases Accuracy for Silver Reef Casino
Customer:
Owned by the Lummi Nation and operated by Merit Gaming, Silver Reef Casino offers 50,000 square feet of gaming, dining and entertainment. With over 40 varieties of the most popular video slots as well as Las Vegas style table games, loyal customers repeatedly return to Silver Reef Casino for the variety of entertainment it provides.
Situation:
In order to ensure a profitable casino operation, ironclad controls are needed to manage all currency transactions. An additional incentive to implementing these checks and balances is the fact that regulatory authorities can place a casino’s ability to operate in jeopardy if a thorough audit trail is not in place. Silver Reef Casino was in the process of converting their existing ticket-based machines to Las Vegas style “cash in” video slots, and needed to put some automated controls in place for those 875 machines. The casino has to collect money from the cash box in each machine at various points in the day and transfer that money to their counting room to count and process it. Without an automated tracking system, the casino would have to manually assign and track two separate cash boxes for each machine, a time consuming and expensive process. For a casino that operates 24 hours a day, this time represents lost revenue. Additionally, from an auditor’s perspective, there is a risk of error and loss of cash during the course of transferring and processing the money.
Solution:
Ryzex understood Silver Reef Casino’s need for a cost effective asset tracking and auditing solution, so they recommended Intermec’s CN3 mobile computer and CheckMate asset tracking software from Dynamic Systems Inc. Silver Reef Casino chose the Intermec CN3 terminal due to the fact it’s incredibly powerful, compact, rugged and easy to use – the perfect solution for its casino workers who are always on the go. Placing a barcode on the inside of each slot machine and on the cash boxes is the foundation for the new system. When security staff removes the cash box from a machine, the CN3 is used to scan the labels of the gaming machine and the cash box being removed. The software records the scans, along with the ID of the security person doing the work; recording the date and time at each step. A final scan is done as the contents are counted and processed. Management can immediately determine if a cash box was removed from a machine but has not been counted.
Results:
The solution enabled the casino to satisfy regulatory requirements, increase productivity and increase the accuracy of their tracking. With the new system, cash boxes no longer need to be manually assigned to each machine, they are automatically identified and tracked. This saves time during the drop process, reduces the number of cash boxes needed by 50 percent and eliminates the need to organize those cash boxes for the next shift. Silver Reef Casino now has a solution that can be adapted as needs change. The casino may eventually use this same solution to track other assets, such as computers, desks, chairs, phones, laptops, monitors, or any other furniture or equipment.
