Over three days, in the hot summer heat of Oklahoma City’s downtown “Bricktown” area, more than 2,200 participants stayed cool and informed by attending the 18th annual Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association annual trade show, held at the Cox Convention Center. The largest regional tribal gaming show—considered by many to be the most successful regional event—OIGA provided cutting-edge workshops, an active and lively exhibit floor and well-attended networking opportunities. 

Every week it’s something new. Another development in the world of social, mobile gaming and— as we in the biz call it—“i-gaming.” Just this past week, it was the announcement of the first licensed intrastate online poker room in the U.S. by South Point, a Las Vegas land-based casino. A week before that, tribal-based Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Ariz., was the first to go live with IGT’s DoubleDown Casino social gaming platform. 

Many in the gaming industry will spend early October attending the Global Gaming Expo and, once again, much of the debate will focus on Internet gaming. This discussion took a sharp turn last December when the Department of Justice released its legal opinion, reversing longstanding views on the applicability of the Wire Act.

In the first hundred days, the people’s representative congress in general has been yielding to the strong leadership of Enrique Pena Nieto, the newly elected president of Mexico. It would appear that Nieto is taking his opportunity of a lifetime and going to do something with it, much like President Roosevelt did after the Great Depression in the United States.
